Chris v Mike
Purdy Young Things vs. I QUIT
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, and gather ’round the wireless. Two unbeaten clubs entered this contest, and by the final whistle, one of them had learned that “I QUIT” can be a remarkably accurate team name.
Michael Carnicelli’s squad came ready to dance. Kenneth Walker III put up 25.8 points, Ja’Marr Chase added 26.5, and Rashod Bateman chipped in 21.8. Brandon Aubrey even kicked in 16. That’s a fine showing—good enough to keep the jukebox playing in most matchups. But Christopher Shoemaker had booked the headliners.
Josh Allen threw himself a five-touchdown sock hop and rang up 43.82 fantasy points. Then Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught nine passes for 155 yards and three touchdowns: 44.5 points. Together, they scored 88.32. Folks, that’s the kind of double feature that has cars lined up around the drive-in. I QUIT kept answering, but Lamar Jackson finished with 15.8, Javonte Williams managed 8, and Michael Wilson supplied 3.8. By the time the music stopped, there was simply too much ground to cover.
Final score: Purdy Young Things 168.72, I QUIT 144.20.
Margin: 24.52 points.
That’s 144.2 in a losing effort. A score worth tipping your fedora to—and a rotten week to run into Allen and Smith-Njigba. So turn down the transistor, clear the dance floor, and put another record on for Purdy Young Things. The two stars owned the airwaves tonight.
Carl v Derek
Team Carl vs. Hate Us Cause They Ain’t Us
Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Pull up a chair, warm the radio tubes, and set that supper aside. Two clubs arrived at this contest looking for their first win, and Team Carl has taken command of the airwaves. The first big number came from CeeDee Lamb: eight catches, 153 yards, two touchdowns, and 37.3 fantasy points. That’s a headline big enough to stop the presses. Jaylen Waddle followed with 138 yards and 23.8 points, while Trey McBride added 18.1. Even Harrison Butker joined the broadcast with 16 points of his own. Across the dial, Derek Chimner had a star turn from Patrick Mahomes. 382 yards, three passing touchdowns, 33.98 points. James Cook added 22.9, but the signal began to fade elsewhere. Rhamondre Stevenson managed 3.6, and Colston Loveland brought in 1.3. That’s no way to keep the big band swinging.
As we go to this live update, the board reads:
Team Carl 154.46
Hate Us Cause They Ain’t Us 118.68
Carl holds a 35.78-point lead, with Malik Nabers still to play. Derek has Isaiah Likely waiting for Monday night. For the comeback, Likely must outscore Nabers by at least 35.79 points.
Could it happen? Certainly, and a radio man knows better than to sign off before the final note. But the odds board gives Team Carl a 99% chance to win. So keep that dial right where it is, folks. Team Carl can almost hear its first victory crackling through the speaker. Hate Us Cause They Ain’t Us needs one last Monday-night performance loud enough to drown out the whole orchestra.
Gentry v Doug
Make My Team Win Again vs. Team DuShuttle
Good afternoon, sports fans! You’re tuned to the fantasy scoreboard, where two winless teams came looking for their first victory. Team DuShuttle has the lead, the momentum, and a couple more tracks left on the cassette. Doug DuShuttle’s lineup got its opening blast from Dak Prescott: 279 yards, four passing touchdowns, 33.76 fantasy points. Travis Kelce followed with nine catches, 101 yards, a touchdown, and 27.1 points. Christian McCaffrey added 22.6, and the Patriots defense put up 14. That’s a strong first side of the tape. Gentry Radwanski had an answer. Jonathan Taylor delivered 29.2 points, and DeVonta Smith went one better with 29.7. For a moment, Make My Team Win Again looked ready to seize the arcade high score. Then DJ Moore registered minus 0.1.
That’s right, callers: a negative number. Somewhere, a Pac-Man machine just ate the last quarter.
The live scoreboard reads:
Team DuShuttle 127.06
Make My Team Win Again 107.82
Doug leads by 19.24 points. Gentry still has kicker Harrison Mevis on Monday night. Doug has Davante Adams and Cam Skattebo yet to play. Mevis needs to outscore both of them by at least 19.25 points to pull off the comeback. The win meter puts Team DuShuttle at 99%. Keep your finger off the eject button, folks; Monday’s games still have to finish. But Doug’s got two players queued up, while Gentry is asking one kicker to turn this whole broadcast around.
That’s a tall order—even with the volume cranked to eleven.
Jack v Brian
Hakeem Nicks is Real vs. QB PARTY
You’re back on the line, folks, and somebody tell QB PARTY to stop refreshing the box score on a flip phone. Every player is finished. The result is in.
Hakeem Nicks is Real 127.54
QB PARTY 121.18
That’s a 6.36-point win for Jack Cassady in a matchup that deserves its own burned CD. Brian McElroy got a headline performance from Brock Purdy: 30.48 points and three touchdowns. Chris Olave added 22.6, Jahmyr Gibbs supplied 23.3, and QB PARTY looked capable of taking this thing. Then the supporting cast hit the skip button. David Montgomery scored 4.4, Justin Jefferson 8.5, and the Buccaneers defense 2. That’s a lot of static for a team relying on a quarterback called Purdy.Jack had problems of his own. Dallas Goedert gave him 1.4 points, and Ladd McConkey managed 6.5. But Amon-Ra St. Brown took over the broadcast: nine catches, 142 yards, two touchdowns, 37.2 fantasy points. Tetairoa McMillan added 17.1, Omarion Hampton 17.5, and the Steelers defense contributed 7.
It was close enough to keep both managers staring at the screen like an AIM away message might change the score. When the final numbers loaded, St. Brown’s big night had carried Hakeem Nicks is Real across the line. Both teams came in 1–0. Jack leaves with the win. Brian leaves with 121.18 points and a six-point question for his next call-in show.
That’s all the time we’ve got. Put this one on the iPod and hit replay.
Will v Kevin
Ace Trumpets vs. Diamond Dogs
You’re on the air, sports fans. It’s Monday, the Diamond Dogs have put up every point they can, and Ace Trumpets still has two acts waiting backstage. Keep the car radio on; this one has a final scene left. Kevin Ware’s Diamond Dogs haven’t had a breakout star. Sam LaPorta led them with 17.2 points. Garrett Wilson added 16.7, D’Andre Swift 12.9, and Bijan Robinson 11.1. It’s the fantasy equivalent of a ’90s compilation CD: no one track owns the station, but the whole thing keeps playing. William Black’s Ace Trumpets got 16.8 from Parker Washington and 10 from George Pickens. Then the trouble started. Trevor Lawrence managed 6.16 points, Jameson Williams 5.3, and Saquon Barkley just 3. If you rented those performances at Blockbuster, you’d be looking for the return slot.
Here’s the live score:
Diamond Dogs 97.52
Ace Trumpets 62.36
That’s a 35.16-point lead for the Dogs. Their lineup is finished. Ace Trumpets still has Kyren Williams and the Rams defense on Monday night; together, they need 35.17 points to steal the win. The matchup meter gives Diamond Dogs a 92% chance. So the phone lines stay open. Does Kyren deliver the comeback and make this the game everyone rewinds on VHS? Or do the Diamond Dogs hang on after a week when 97.52 was enough?
We’ll know when the last Monday-night score comes through. Until then, don’t touch that dial.
